Synopsis
In Search of A Holy Land is a perfectly timed memoir told with brisk honesty and sharp humour. Sweeping from the suburbs of North London to the olive groves of Palestine, it explores a life of excess-to-spirituality impacted by the struggle of a distant people. Paddling the celebrity shallows of the 1990's as Tony Blair's sister-in-law, Lauren Booth explored everything city life had on offer; appearing on reality TV shows and at the opening of a paper bag (if it meant freebies).
Yet, as a cautious Christian, she was drawn to the Holy Land too. Given the chance to visit Palestine, instead of finding the faith of her Catholic heritage, she became embroiled in the people's struggle, accidentally breaking a deadly siege by land and sea, playing handball with Hamas and witnessing daily acts of patience and courage which would change her forever. Above all In Search of A Holy Land is a witty personal odyssey calling the reader to consider the universal question; `what's this life thing all about?'

Assalama alaikoum dear sister Lauren. Mashallah mashallah tabarakallah. May God's blessings be upon you and your family in this life and in the after life inshallah.
I felt compelled to write to you and thank you today. After a few traumatic weeks mourning the sudden loss of my blessed mother and feeling the deepest sadness and fear I've ever felt, I saw the announcement on your page that you had your book giveaway online and was relieved that Allah sent me this opportunity to distract my mind from the torture of it all.
I'd wanted to read it for sometime as my family and I had watched so many of your talks and have much respect for you but being so broke, I couldn't afford to purchase the book unfortunately. I was delighted that I managed to download it less than 72 hours ago.
Subhanallah Allah, I couldn't put it down. I started reading it yesterday morning and have just completed it 15 minutes ago. I dropped everything I had planned to do yesterday and today and just rested with multiple tablets around me not to lose the momentum as I flicked through every digital page with much excitement and admiration.
Thank you dear sister for sharing your unique journey. Your words, thoughts and reflections resonated with me in so many ways. I'm surprised our paths never crossed as I too was at a few of the same events. I too was a London bred, European background, raised in foreign media circles. I too was at every protest and event for Palestine and Iraq. I too was working to raise funds to provide medical aid for their causes and I too became a Muslim, traveled across the Middle East over the last 25 years. Having read your journey just filled my heart with pride and joy for you. What a warrior you are dear sister. Much more courageous than I to reach such destinations and peoples in their home countries. Jazakallah khair dear sister. May Allah reward you abundantly for all your efforts.
There was much in the book that surprised me, topics I never thought you'd touch as I thought perhaps were too sensitive and others that reminded me of my own in sensitivities and ignorance about Islam many years before embracing it myself.
Much love & God bless
S.
